    KALAMAZOO — Finnish-born pianist Juho Pohjonen has seen much of the world in his 29 years. He holds the awards and accolades of a musician in his prime.

    He won the Stockholm International Young Artists Concerto Competition in 2000 and the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2003. New York Times senior music critic Anthony Tommasini called his performance in New York in 2004 “one of the most memorable concert events heard in New York.”

    On April 10, the young pianist will make his Michigan debut, performing as the sixth and final artist in the 2010-11 Gilmore Rising Stars series. The concert, at the Wellspring Theater in the Epic Center, will come on the heels of a recital at New York City’s Rockefeller University. His Kalamazoo recital will include three works by Ravel, Handel and Brahms from the New York engagement.
