Biography:
Juho Pohjonen is a highly acclaimed Finnish pianist who has captivated audiences worldwide with his exceptional musicianship and distinctive artistic vision. He has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and Tonhalle Orchestra, collaborating with conductors such as Marin Alsop, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Osmo Vänskä. His recital appearances span major venues across Europe and North America, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall and the Kennedy Center. His discography includes Visionaries of the Keyboard featuring works by Rameau and Scriabin, collaborations with cellist Christian Poltéra and recordings of contemporary works by Brett Dean and Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen. Pohjonen studied at the Sibelius Academy under Meri Louhos and Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna, earning his Master’s Degree in 2008. He was selected by Sir András Schiff as the winner of the Klavier Festival Ruhr Scholarship in 2009 and is an alumnus of the Kronberg Academy. Beyond performing, Pohjonen is also the creator of MyPianist, an innovative AI-based iOS app that provides interactive piano accompaniment for musicians.

On April 10, the young pianist will make his Michigan debut, performing as the sixth and final artist in the 2010-11 Gilmore Rising Stars series. The concert, at the Wellspring Theater in the Epic Center, will come on the heels of a recital at New York City’s Rockefeller University. His Kalamazoo recital will include three works by Ravel, Handel and Brahms from the New York engagement.
