She has worked as a journalist for more than decade. Before joining NBC Bay Area, Klapper was a general assignment reporter and substitute anchor at KGO-TV ABC7 in San Francisco. At the station, she covered daily breaking news stories as well as in-depth reports. In addition, she reported on stories varying from the Asiana Airlines crash to the historic opening of the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
Before arriving in the Bay Area, Klapper spent two years anchoring the evening news, reporting and producing for the GOCOM Media the CBS & NBC stations in the Chico, Redding region of Northern California. In addition, she also worked two years as a morning live reporter, multimedia journalist, substitute anchor, and fill-in weather anchor. BOSTON- “Being in front of the camera makes me feel like I’m alive,” says vibrant young San Francisco news reporter, Kira Klapper,
“Every morning, people invite me in to their homes to learn about the neighborhood news. It’s such a privilege,” Klapper tells Boston University journalism students.
Proud to shed her experience at her old alma mater, Klapper visited BU recently on the end of her one month vacation with her new husband. Although that may seem like a lot of time away from the camera, Kira worked seven long, sleepless years for this well deserved break.
Graduating from Boston University in , Kira moved back home to Los Angeles with no real career plan, especially after her resume tape was stolen out of her apartment in Boston.
At age 17 she found her passion for television while anchoring for CBS’s “Kids Talk Sports;” she did not let this fire burn out. Kira got a job as a production assistant for an ABC affiliate in San Francisco. Working tirelessly for nine months as an intern from 3am-noon, then shadowing her colleagues from noon until 9pm, Kira eventually created a new tape that helped her get her first job.
